Love for quality since 1954
The Giacovelli company story
The Giacovelli company story
Passing through three generations and combining tradition with innovation, for almost 70 years with dedication and passion we have built a company that brings its quality fruit to more and more tables.
1954
Our passion for fruit began back in 1954, when Vito Giacovelli started a sole proprietorship merchandising Apulian and Metapontine and watermelons among wholesalers, local markets and vegetable markets.
1975 – 1978
After setting down solid roots, a gradual process of expansion began with the entry of Vito’s sons, who began to work alongside and support him: first Raffaele in 1975 in the purchasing department and then his brother Pietro in 1978 in sales.
1979
From the initial retail sale of fruit, a gradual opening to the national market began and we took our first steps towards large-scale retailing.
1982
With the addition of grapes to Giacovelli’s fruit offering, we start the first foreign trade relations starting with Belgium.
1984
In 1984, new technologies and machines were brought into the company, allowing us to increase our supply to large Italian retailers.
1986
Destined to grow even more, we cross another important milestone: we become a limited company.
1987
Our reach is becoming ever wider: we are opening up the marketing of our products to even more foreign markets including Germany, France, Holland and England in our sales network.
1988
We strengthen not only our sales network, but also our production network. We start citrus fruit production.
2005
As the years went by, we noticed that watermelon cultivation was no longer productive for the company and so we decided to abandon it.
2006
Our fruit proposal is further expanded with the entry of cherries and apricots, in addition to citrus fruits and grapes.
2011
After consolidating its headquarters in Locorotondo, we expanded our operational and logistics bases in Conversano, using the Conversano plant for cherry acceptance and goods storage.
2012
We subsequently rented the building in Turi, later purchased in 2018, as logistical support and cherry unloading.
2019 – 2020
Family and company are two worlds that for us have always coexisted. Raffaele and Pietro, later joined their father Vito and are still the reference points of the company. In 2019 Anna, Raffaele’s daughter, entered the company as Business Development Manager together with Anna Rita Pietro’s daughter, who has the role of Business Analyst.
2022
We have introduced an optical calibrating machine for processing cherries, making the Turi plant productive.
Today
Our company is first and foremost made up of people who every day put their energy and passion into everything they do to bring seasonal quality to your table.
